Win2000::Changing Your Password

PIC Lab

Please pre-select a strong password. It should be at least 8 characters long and must include upper and lower case letters, digits and punctuation. Do not use words from published dictionaries even in non-English languages. (Quenya is out, but you might get away with Khoisan.) Do not use place names or the names of people you know, or the name of your pet. Follow this link for more information and a link to a random password generator.

  1. Log on to Windows using your current password.

  2. Simultaneously press and hold the <Ctrl> <Alt> <Del> keys.

  3. A window will appear with 6 option buttons and some information about your account.

  4. With the mouse, click on the button that is labeled 'Change Password...'

  5. Another window will appear with your Username and Domain(PIC) at the top, with 3 empty edit boxes below.

  6. In the box labeled 'Old Password', type your current Windows password.

  7. Do not press <Enter>! Use the mouse or the <Tab> key to get to the next box.

  8. In the box labeled 'New Password', type the new password.
    Note: The new password must be at least 8 characters long.

  9. Retype the new password in the box labeled 'Confirm New Password'.

  10. Press <Enter> or click on 'OK'.

  11. You should then see a window appear, telling you that Your password has been changed.
    If not, return to step 4, and try again.
