The Laguna Server
Credentials
PIC students are given access to the Laguna Server.
- You will need your Bruin Online (BOL) ID. This is the name that comes before @ucla.edu or @g.ucla.edu in your e-mail address.

Account creation versus future logins.
- When creating your account, you will use "newuser" as the username.
- When logging in afterwards, you will use your BOL ID as the username.
- When creating your account, you will first use a password given to you by your instructor or TA. You will then specify a password for the future. This password can be different than the password that you use for the PIC Lab computers, but it is simplest for you to use the same one.
Access
There are a few different methods you can use to set up your account and to log in.

All users can ssh when connected to UCLA internet
using the Terminal on Mac and the Command Prompt on Windows.
- The first time, you type ssh newuser@laguna.pic.ucla.edu
- In the future, you type ssh your_BOL_ID@laguna.pic.ucla.edu
- When specifying your password, it will not appear as you type it, nor will the cursor move. If you want to backspace press CTRL+backspace.

Windows users can use PuTTY to login.
- Host Name (or IP address): laguna.pic.ucla.edu
- Port: 22
- Connection type: SSH
- Other network file transfer applications can be used. The SFTP Protocol works well with Transmit for Mac.
